It was a day in September, a day I’ll always remember…
That is the day I fell in love with Chicago. From the train ride through the Northside, to the fabulous drinks and dope people- I knew I landed somewhere special. The people of Chicago are so kool. The diversity in style and art is a very dope example of the creative minds that inhabit the windy city.
The city (from my short sweet visit) seems to cater to the needs of such a wide variety of people.
The adult beverages were delicious and delicate works of alcoholic wonder. Mixologist here are serious about their works of liquid spirit art, as it should not be taken lightly. The fish and chips from Sink|Swim was absolutely amazing paired with seaweed roasted potatoes and Chicago style Ecote. Not to mention I was blessed to have my favorite sister friend @urban_will be my very own tour guide.
Let’s not forget the amazing Brown Butter Almond Brittle and Bourbon Salted Butter Pecan ice cream in a waffle cone from Jenni’s. Best ice cream experience I’ve had in a very long time. THANKS AGAIN DEAR SWEET CHICAGO.
Our Uber rides were even pleasant. I had the opportunity to hear about a beautiful young bright mind while capturing a lesson in financial freedom from one of our very dope drivers. Not to mention the amazing pieces of art by none other than well known Chicago creative….
I found myself walking. through certain neighborhoods and finding subtle pick me ups that make you appreciate why Chicago is such a beautiful place.
Grateful for my very first Chi town experience. From the dope decor in the boutiques to the vintage feel of the wall filled book store. Though i didn’t get to chill by the lake this visit or grab a classic vinyl from a well known record store I did get to experience some of the koolest 7 hours of my kool life and I WILL return to continue my love affair with the windy city.
I had the pleasure of spending a day with Atlanta native and much anticipated emcee Auburn Ave Xae, whom i’ve come to know as Xae. During an excursion through cabbage town a well known Atlanta neighborhood, I had the opportunity to speak to Xae about his upcoming project. He shared a bit about his creative process behind the much anticipated album and what it feels like to graduate with a degree from Georgia State while pursuing music.
Auburn Ave Xae’s ear for music and appreciation of classic production and well thought out lyrics reflect greatly in the Atlanta emcees upcoming project. From sultry southern soul to raw hip hop lyricism with a taste of funk, Xae’s style is sure to leave a lasting impression on music lovers across the diaspora. Enjoy a bit of Auburn Ave Xae’s commentary on what it means to be an emcee and what that title means as artist on the come up in Atlanta. The hip hop community is in for some much needed hip hop magic. A unique sound with a foundation of great influence and what seems to be effortless track choices, I look forward to what is to come from Auburn Ave Xae. (Named after one of the most historical blocks in Atlanta, how could i not.)

While on a trek through cabbage town; a very unique neighborhood with some of Atlanta’s richest history, I had the opportunity to capture some images of some very dope pieces by Atlanta’s finest artist. The art covered walls are a pleasure to the eye and wonderful addition to the Atlanta neigborhood. Each piece is custom created and directly reflects the individual styles of each artist. The diversity of the pieces are good reflections of the diversity of art and the array of creatives that inhabit the city. It is always refreshing to see gallary worthy art shared on the street canvas’s across the city for viewers of all walks of life to enjoy.
Enjoy a few of my favorite pieces from my excursion through Cabbage Town. Though I captured way more pieces by a variety of artist, these few were the chosen ones that i enjoyed the most on this particular outting, all for very unique reasons. I enjoyed the homage paid to a few Atlanta natives and staples in the creative community. I also enjoyed a trip down memory lane with one of my childhood favorites.
If you ever find yourself in Atlanta and in need of evening of art while on a stroll be sure to check the street art in Little 5 points, Krog Street, Castleberry and the always amazing Edgewood Ave. Atlanta artist are sure to show up and show out and you certainly won’t go home disappointed.
Not to long ago i was invited to tag along with the 3 Kings of the bay and one of the dopest graphic and visual artist I know. I had the opportunity to explore some really kool hidden treasures around the bay area. While the bay is known for its beautiful water, amazing views and wonderful people, its beautiful strategically placed street art has proven unmatched.
Pieces range from small to large, old and faded, serene and peaceful to grungy and abandoned. Alluring viewers with bright colors and intricate designs the master pieces left for the excting reactions of the occasional vistor are sure to go down in someones book of street art history.
The few images from this mission were taken in abandoned training facilities near Vallejo on what has been known as Mare Island. The building is definitely desolate and abandoned and I would not suggest going alone. However it is a graffiti artist dream and a photographers creative haven.
While enjoying a much needed visit to Atlanta I had the opportunity to sit with one of Atlanta’s koolest creatives, “Hobo the Great” also known by his instagram handle “Hobo Ink”. Admired throughout the city for the mesmerizing pieces of art he gracefully inks on clients, Hobo was gracious enough to share a bit about his journey as an artist, emcee and what it is to be a regular guy with vision.
Enjoy a very dope lesson on art, music and a creatives lifestyle from one of Atlanta’s finest as we discuss music, life and the creative process involved in becoming one of the best to do it.
